You’ve got a new release (or an older one that needs some love). Now what?
We get several questions a week from authors interested in having one of the Thrice Read Books review team reading. Hopefully, we can answer all your questions in this post. (If not, feel free to post a comment, and we’ll make sure it gets added or addressed.)
Step One: Select your reviewer (see below)
Please note – reviews without a specified reviewer are more likely to be rejected, as Jenn frequently acts as a catch-all for what Brian and Sam can’t pick up, and she is currently buried under books.
Step Two: Send us an email
We’re looking forward to learning about your book, so drop us a line at email@example.com. In the subject, use: “Book Review Request for [reviewer’s name]”.
In the body of the email, please include the following:
- Book title, audience age level, number of pages, and genre (and any applicable sub-genres).
- The cover blurb
- A one- to two-chapter sample (or a link to the book on Amazon that has a preview available).
It sometimes takes us one to two days to review requests and reply. Please do not send requests via social media private messages. Jenn will most likely just send you here.
Our Team (aka – who reads what)
Jenn – Currently Not Taking Submissions
Jenn reads primarily romance – Fantasy Romance, Sci-Fi Romance, Historical Romance, Contemporary Romance… You get the idea. She’s an avid reader, and you’ll see her reviews on the blog the most often.
Sam & Sam’s Teen Reads Corner
Sam is our resident YA and NA fiction fan. She’s partial to horror, fantasy, and paranormal, but will occasionally dip her toes into the world of YA Romance. Her written reviews are featured here on the Thrice Read Books review blog, but she also does a weekly Youtube live-stream format, where she talks about a handful of books every week.
She is also interested in diverse fiction and is open to reading a wide variety of LGBTQ+ and PoC fiction. Her only true turn-offs in fiction are explicit sex and over-used profanity, and she tends to “thumbs-down” books with large casts and several subplots.
To see some of Sam’s past review vlogs, check her out on our Youtube channel here.
Brian – Only taking select titles at this time
Brian is the third member of our team. He is particularly partial to fantasy and sci-fi and steers away from military fiction.
He’s limited in the amount of time he has available to read – as much as he might love your book, his turn-around time for reviews tends to run in the three-to-four-month range.
What to expect when we accept your book:
When we’ve reviewed your request, Jenn will reply to let you know we’d like the book, or that we’ll pass for now. If we’re taking the book in, she will work with you to get an e-copy of the book and provide an approximate turn-around time for the blog.
When the blog post is done, she will be back in touch with you with information about the blog link and publication date. Reviews done on the blog are also posted on Amazon as well as our individual Goodreads accounts (Jenn posts Brian’s reviews on her Goodreads account and Sam has her own page). Our external reviews are posted as we prep the blog post, and usually, show up a few days before the blog goes live. If Sam is reviewing your book for her vlog, Jenn will contact you to advise of the day and time of Sam’s live-stream featuring your book (a follow-up email a few minutes before we turn on the camera will have a link), as well as the date the blog will be published (sometimes these are close together, sometimes, not so much).
The reviewer I’d like isn’t available. How can I find out when you have openings?
So glad you asked!
We put out a bi-weekly newsletter just for authors, and the answer to this question goes into each edition. Whenever one of us is running low on books to read (hahaha… It does happen), we add our wish list to the VIP newsletter in a call for reviews. Currently, Sam is the only one open to submissions.
You can sign up for our Author VIP newsletter here (we don’t sell your information for any reason, and only use what we collect to contact you for the reasons specified):
When it’s done! (The all-important next steps)
We try to get our reviews up on the blog as quickly as possible, though we are presently working with a backlog. Requested reviews get first priority for posting (over books that we just couldn’t pass by in a bookstore).
Jenn posts our reviews on one of our Goodreads pages (her personal account or Sam’s – Brian skips this step, so Jenn has a “shelf” on Goodreads for Brian’s reviews) and on Amazon as they are drafted or moved into the review blogs. Around that time, you should also get an email to let you know we’re building the blog.
Once the blog is put together and we have it scheduled, you’ll receive another email with the link, scheduled publication date, and one of these nifty badges to display on your author website!
We continue to promote our blog posts on social media for several months after they are initially published.
