What happens when your internet crush…

Shows up in real life?

First Lieutenant Thane Carter has experienced great success as the senior platoon leader of a military police company at Fort Hood. But tbh, his love life stinks. Thane wishes his maddening—and off-limits—new coworker, Lieutenant Chloe Michaels, could be more like his online friend “BallerinaBaby.” It’s complicated, all right—especially when Thane learns that his workplace nemesis and his internet crush are one and the same!

About the Author

Despite a no-nonsense background as a West Point graduate and U.S. Army officer, Caro Carson has always treasured the happily-ever-after of a good romance novel. After her military service, she worked in the healthcare industry with a Fortune 100 company, talking science with doctors who were rarely handsome bachelor Texans like the doctors in her books. Now a USA Today bestselling author and RITA™award winner, Caro is delighted to be living her own happily-ever-after with her husband (who actually is a handsome Texan) and their two children. They live in the great state of Florida, a location which has saved the coaster-loving theme park fanatics a fortune on plane tickets.

Jenn’s Review

Typically, I’m on the fence about military romance, as a former Army wife and Army civilian. I love the love stories, but frequently, the [military] lifestyle is romanticized and my enjoyment is killed by the “I’m pretty sure someone’s going to at least get a counseling statement off that…” reality-check in the back of my head. So when I met Ms. Carson at a romance lit convention and had the opportunity to talk to her about The Lieutenants’ Online Love, her personal experience with military law and her attention to detail just on the cover sold me on giving this one a try.

Thane Carter would love to have a life outside his career as a military police officer. Sadly, his only success so far has been with a whimsical online relationship with a woman he knows only as “BallerinaBaby”. His dreams take a downhill slide when the gorgeous woman he meets at an apartment complex barbeque turns out to be the new coworker in his company on Fort Hood.

Chloe Michaels is fresh out of West Point and already tired of the attitude she gets as a new lieutenant in Fort Hood’s military police force. She’s a woman. She’s a West Point grad. And the guys, especially Lieutenant Carter, all expect nothing but failure and weakness as she works her way into her new position. Only her online friend, “DifferentDrummer”, seems to have any faith in her ability to do her job and do it well. And while he’s there to listen when she needs an understanding shoulder to lean on, she has to be careful about the details of her life. They had an agreement, after all.

Carter and Michaels clash in the office and on patrol, delicately dancing around military regulations as they each struggle with their love-hate relationship. And when Carter discovers that BallerinaBaby is closer than he realizes, the tensions ratchet up several notches.

I blew threw this book in one sitting, then picked it up and read it again the next day. I appreciate Ms. Carson’s respect of military law (and not bending around it to make things simpler), and her attention to the little details. With a background in military law running through my own marriage, I didn’t find myself sitting back and asking Hubby (a former Army JAG paralegal) if something sounded off to him. At. All.

I’m impressed and working my way through my TBR pile to make room for some more Caro Carson.

Publisher – Forever (April 24, 2018)

True heroes will do anything to protect the women they love…

As the newest recruit at Search and Protect, Raul has a lot to prove. Luckily, he’s got the best friend and partner a man could ask for: a highly trained, fiercely loyal German Shepherd Dog named Taz. Together, Raul and Taz make an unbeatable team. But their first mission in Hawaii really puts them to the test when an international kidnapping ring sets its sights on the bravest woman Raul’s ever met . . .

Mali knows her latest job has put one hell of a target on her back. And on this small island paradise, there’s nowhere to hide. With a service dog like Taz, Mali feels safe. Sharing close quarters with a smoldering muscle-for-hire like Raul, she feels something else – an unexpected wave of desire. Raul feels it too. But when the kidnappers make their move, he’s got to turn that slow-burning passion into hard-hitting action – and save the life of the woman he loves.

About the Author

Piper J. Drake is a bestselling author of romantic suspense and edgy contemporary romance, a frequent flyer, and day job road warrior. She is often distracted by dogs, cupcakes, and random shenanigans.

Jenn’s Review

Action, suspense, kidnappers, and service dogs merge with spectacular results in Piper Drake’s romantic suspense, Total Bravery.

Raul is the new guy on the team and is still settling in with his new K9 partner, Taz. He’s certainly not looking for a fling, let alone a relationship.

Until he runs into Mali.

Her research brought her to Hawaii. It’s also brought some unwanted attention from a top sex-traffic ring. Can she let go of her objective long enough to let Raul and his team keep her safe?

I absolutely loved this book. Drake weaves a fascinating plot full of emotion, tension, and steamy attraction. Two thumbs up and four-stars.

Book One – Renner
Showing a woman her worth is his specialty.

Renner Shaw’s priority as a Knight—a luxury escort with Knights of Texas—is making clients feel safe and secure. Intimacy is a perk, and one of his fortes. A position he was surprised to be well suited for with his charm and unrivaled focus. But he never expected the likes of Cassie Summer to come calling.

Cassie never expected to call an escort for the sole purpose of helping her sleep after a sudden tragedy. She certainly never anticipated the sizzling Renner Shaw would be the light that helps guide her out of grief. Only, it may be too late to salvage her splintered heart.

Making his client feel safe and secure is harder than Renner ever imagined, but he’s determined to fulfill his role to perfection. To change her gray and dreary world into one of colorful pleasure.

Jenn’s Review:

I found a novella that was both sweet and steamy, with a satisfying ending in Susan Sheehey’s Tell Me What You Want. Who knew being a male escort could lead a man to the woman of his dreams?

Renner’s a man with a history – and not the warm fuzzy kind of history. So when his friends dupe him into his first gig as a gigolo, he’s surprised to find that his skills as a lover can, in fact, go hand in hand with his skills as a bodyguard. He’s charming and focused, and very good at giving women what they’re looking for as a high-end escort.

Cassie just wants a full night’s sleep, which she hasn’t had since the tragedy that ripped her husband out of her life. Now, she’s juggling life without a partner and a traumatized son, nightmares and loneliness. Who knew an escort would not only help her get a good night’s sleep but would also start piecing her broken heart back together?

Tell Me What You Want is, for the most part, a sweet romance, with a few sensual scenes that follow the midpoint. Ms. Sheehey builds the suspense and character development subtly, rocketing her readers through a beautifully developed story, drops readers off a cliff in the Black Moment, and then ties it all up in a neat bow for a satisfying conclusion.

On Broken Wings – Book Review

About the Book:

The author of Into the Blue and Fly with Me returns with the third high-flying Wild Aces romance…

A year after losing her husband, Joker, the squadron commander of the Wild Aces, Dani Peterson gets an offer from his best friend, Alex “Easy” Rogers, to help fix up her house. Dani accepts, and their friendship grows—along with an undeniable attraction.

Racked by guilt for loving his best friend’s widow, Easy’s caught between what he wants and can’t have. Until one night everything changes, and the woman who’s always held his heart ends up in his arms. Yet as Easy leaves for his next deployment, he and Dani are torn between their feelings and their loyalty to Joker’s memory.

But when Dani discovers something that sends them both into a spin, the conflicted lovers must overcome the past to navigate a future together…

Jenn’s Review:

Chanel Cleeton strikes a chord once more with her third book in the Wild Aces series, On Broken Wings.

Dani has struggled along in the year since her husband, call sign “Joker” crashed into an Alaskan mountain side in his F-16, and the loss of their baby only a few months before. She’s alone, trying to redefine herself after years as an Air Force wife, unsure where life will leave her once her house sells and it’s time to move on. Alex, call sign “Easy”, has been a long-time close friend, was her husband’s best friend, and he’s always been there when Dani needed a strong shoulder to lean on.

Alex, however, has kept a deep, dark secret for all the years he’s known Dani. His heart has been in her hands for years, head over heels in love with his friend’s devoted wife, never saying a word to anyone about it. With Joker gone, however, guilt consumes him over the need he feels for Dani, and fear has edged in with it. Dani might be gone forever when he returns from his latest deployment to Afghanistan.

Can these two find each other, beyond friendship and their shared grief? Can Dani find the realization of her dreams she’s long thought dead and gone?

Ms. Cleeton weaves an emotionally gripping story of friends pulling apart and coming back together, stronger than before. Sexy and fast paced, reading this book was everything I look for in a romance novel.

Beast – Book Review

About the book:

I thought I was no good.

I thought I was a monster.

But in the end, her love was what I needed to redeem me, to save my blackened soul.

I let her slip through my fingers but, I still need her.

Will my ugly, twisted love be enough to win her back?

Hurt and dejected, Jasmine wants answers when she crosses paths with Liam nearly two years after their unforgettable one-night stand. But Liam’s walls are up and his heart is closed. That is, until another man enters the picture and threatens to steal Jasmine away forever.

Now, Liam must decide – will he stand by and watch Jasmine fall for someone else or will he fight for the love he doesn’t even think he deserves?

Jenn’s Review:

Beast is a creative, modern retelling of the classic fairy tale, right down to the heroine of the story running away (or trying to). Jasmine is extremely attracted to her former one-night-stand turned managing partner of the law firm she works for, but Liam pushes her away, convinced that he doesn’t deserve her, is unworthy of her, is too ugly to have someone so beautiful in his life. To further complicate the situation, enter “Chess,” wealthy, handsome presidential candidate who wants Jasmine to be his, wants her to be his First Lady; yet something seems off about Chess, both to Jasmine and to Liam.

Well developed characters and a driving plot kept me turning pages to get through this book; had me cheering for both Jasmine and Liam, as well as giving me a few moments of wanting to shake them both to make them stop being dorks. Definitely worthwhile reading for lovers of romance.
