About the Book

The Long and the Short of It All; Nancy E. Miller
Adult; Women’s Fiction; 182 Pages

September 17, 2019

Ehren Taggert is a new papa to Maggie, a long-haired mini dachshund with years of puppy mill torture in her past. Enter Blaize Montana D.V.M. She deals with the abused, neglected, and unwanted. Her past makes her more than qualified. Ehren finds her intriguing. Blaize finds him interesting but can she open up to him? A horrifying experience, an act of bravery, an injury that leaves Ehren helpless. Can they work through trust issues to become a happy little family of three?

Nancy E Miller lives with her husband and four rescued dogs near St. Louis, MO. She is an adamant advocate for the four-legged companions who cannot speak for themselves. She is the author of Contemporary Psychological Suspense novels Crystal Unicorns, Head Games, Desperate Overtures, and nonfiction, Daffodils.

Jenn’s Review

Nancy Miller is back at it with another fantastic contemporary romance. This one is for all you out there who love animals, featuring a dog rescue devoted to the low-riders in the world. A word of caution though – Ms. Miller gives a frank, critical (and truthful) look at animal abuse and puppy mills. If these things are triggers for you, be aware.

Ehren’s a confirmed, die-hard bachelor who’s finally getting tired of the constant one-night-stands and shallow, hit and miss relationships. He’s not entirely sure he wants to settle down yet, so when his mom suckers him into adopting Maggie, a miniature, long-hair dachshund with serious issues, he’s out of his depth and drawn into life with another soul to worry about.

A chance encounter with a waitress leads Ehren to Blaize, a veterinarian with a traumatic past and a big heart, who happens to specialize in the hard cases with short legs. Blaize needs to keep her distance – the mysteries and holes in her memory hold her locked in the cycle of PTSD, and relationships are a thing to avoid at all costs.

Except that Ehren and Blaize really click, bonding over more than just Maggie’s difficulties.

The Long and the Short of It All is yet another feather in Ms. Miller’s cap of deep characters and meaningful stories that go beyond sexual tension. Add in a full cast of adorable rescue dogs, and you’ve got a recipe for a winner. Four stars.

Jenn’s Review

Those who know me well, know that I’m always on the hunt for new reads – especially if they’re helpful. As a future indie author, I’m also keenly interested in books on self-publishing. So it wasn’t a big surprise when an indie author friend all but threw a title at me, with a note, “Read this now.” Being Indie by Eeva Lancaster, AKA The Book Khaleesi, was that book.

From writing and editing, to author platform and choosing the right publishing platform, Ms. Lancaster tackles the hot topics in this competitive field with an air of authority and finesse. She is clear and concise and takes the confusion out of what to do when.

Tons of books have been written on the topic, and I fully recommend reading a variety of authors (because we all learn differently, and one writer might leave out that burning question that you’re hunting for answers to). Eeva Lancaster’s Being Indie needs to be at the top of your pile when you’re ready to tackle self-publishing.
